Taiwan president leaves for visit to last African ally Eswatini

Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen has left for a visit to Eswatini, Taiwan's last African ally, asserting that Taiwan will continue to engage confidently with the world and demonstrate its positive influence. Taiwan, which China claims as its own territory, has formal relations with only 13 countries, mostly small nations in Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Pacific. Tsai's visit to Eswatini aims to commemorate the country's independence and marks 55 years of bilateral relations. Taiwan has provided substantial aid to Eswatini, including antiviral medication to help the king recover from COVID-19.
